I C.A.R.E.: Unleashing Superpowers

Celebrating Strengths in Individuals with FASD

Buckle up, because we’re about to flip the script and focus on the incredible superpowers that make people with FASD truly special. And guess what? We’re going to learn a cool technique called “back chaining” to help these superpowers shine even brighter!

Let’s dive into the awesome world of strengths in individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

Strength Spotting: The FASD Superpower Catalog

First things first, let’s identify some common superpowers often seen in our FASD heroes:

  1. The Gift of Gab: Many are highly verbal and can talk up a storm!
  2. Artistic Wizardry: From painting to music, creativity flows like magic.
  3. Heart of Gold: Friendliness and affection that could melt the coldest ice.
  4. Kid Whisperer: An amazing ability to connect with younger children.
  5. Mechanical Genius: Some can take apart and reassemble gadgets like pros.
  6. Sports Star: Athletic abilities that would make Olympians jealous.
  7. Helper Extraordinaire: Always ready to lend a hand with a smile.

Back Chaining: The Secret Technique to Unleash Superpowers

Now, let’s talk about a super-secret technique called “back chaining.” It’s like learning a magic trick, but instead of starting at the beginning, we start at the end! Here’s how it works:

  1. Pick a superpower you want to enhance.
  2. Break it down into small steps.
  3. Start by mastering the very last step.
  4. Once that’s down, add the step right before it.
  5. Keep working backwards until you’ve mastered the whole sequence.

Let’s try it with our “Artistic Wizardry” superpower: Goal: Create an awesome painting

  1. Sign the masterpiece (Last step)
  2. Add final details
  3. Paint the main elements
  4. Sketch the basic shapes
  5. Choose colors (First step)

By starting with signing the painting, our FASD hero gets to experience the joy of completion right from the start! Then, we work backwards, adding skills one by one. It’s like building a tower from the top down – super fun and less overwhelming!

Superpower Activation Stations

Now that we know about back chaining, let’s set up some “Superpower Activation Stations” to practice:

  1. Gab Lab: Set up a mini-podium and practice giving short speeches, starting with a bow and working backwards to the introduction.
  2. Rhythm Rangers: Learn a drum beat starting with the final crash and working back to the opening tap.
  3. Kindness Corner: Practice random acts of kindness, starting with receiving thanks and working back to spotting opportunities to help.
  4. Sports Spot: Master a cool sports move (like a basketball free throw) starting with the perfect follow-through and working back to the initial stance.

Remember, every superhero started somewhere. By focusing on these incredible strengths and using our secret back chaining technique, we’re not just learning – we’re winning at life!

The FASD Strength Celebration Dance

Celebrate all these amazing strengths.

Celebration Dance! Start with a big final pose, then work backwards to add more moves. Before you know it, you’ll have a full dance routine that showcases all the awesome superpowers of individuals with FASD! So, superheroes, are you ready to unleash your powers? Remember, in the world of FASD, challenges are just opportunities for your strengths to shine even brighter. Keep spotting those superpowers, use that back chaining magic, and most importantly – have a blast while you’re at it!

Now go out there and show the world how truly super you are!
